About

Aerospace engineering student at the University of Hertfordshire, graduating July 2027, with a D*D*D* BTEC in Aviation Operations. On the quadcopter project I led manufacturing and got the frame from 210 g down to 33 g on a £130 budget. Co-founded Crosswind to give people straight answers about getting into aviation and aerospace.

Engineering projects

Quadcopter UAV Structural Frame

Manufacturing Lead, Aircraft Systems Integration group project · 2026

I led manufacturing from CAD through CAM to assembly and flight testing. The CFRP was water-jet cut and the foam core shaped by hand. The first sheet fractured and the second delaminated, so we epoxy-bonded the repaired layers, and a 3 m drop test left the frame undamaged. I printed the battery clamp skid and ESC mounts in PLA and sorted out the fit problems during assembly. We picked an X-frame with a design matrix and checked it with FEA: peak stress dropped from 45 to 28 MPa under 3G loading, within 4.2% of the hand calculations. The frame went from 210 g to 33 g, an 84% cut, on a £130 budget.

Aerofoil, Wing Design and Testing

Applied Aerodynamics group project · 2025 to 2026

We chose the CH-10 aerofoil after benchmarking against reference aircraft, with a £30 budget. XFLR5, STAR-CCM+ CFD and wind tunnel testing all pointed to an 18° pre-stall angle of attack, and we mounted the finished wing at 15°. The PLA and spruce semi-monocoque wing weighed 368 g. In flight tests it rolled, which I traced to uneven weight distribution. Build errors (wrong wing-box dimensions, undersized struts) were fixed by reversing part orientation and routing a dual spar.

Mars Rover, CDIO Design Project

Introductory Robotics and Microcontrollers group project · 2025

A scaled Mars rover taken from concept sketches in CATIA V5 through PDR and CDR to a working build. I worked on the 18-item bill of materials and the Gantt plan, and changed the motor mounts, battery bracket and axle length after PDR feedback. I also helped build the obstacle avoidance: an Arduino Uno and ultrasonic sensor that detects at 30 cm and turns the rover, with LED indicators. We moved the rear wheel from front to back to improve turning.

Glider and Launcher

Introduction to Projects and Design group project · 2024

Drew the assembly drawings by hand to third-angle projection with a bill of materials, wrote the rationale for the wing profile, drag reduction and launcher, and tested different wing geometries. Flight performance was inconsistent until we moved weight and redesigned the launcher.
